The Way To Judge A Man
by TPO on May 31, 2009
My Mother once said that you can tell a lot about a man by the people that he surrounds himself with. I am not going to go into all of Obama’s questionable relationships of the past… at least not in THIS post. What I do want to do is just take a look at the people that he has chosen to be on is inner circle. This motley list of tax cheats, liars and thieves is a pathetic lot, and a very telling look into tha man they call ‘Boss”
I find myself wondering, with all the good, bright and honest people, WHY would a man consistently select shady characters to be on his team. I have a feeling it has to do with the fact that he plans on doing things to the American people that no honest, decent person would stand for.
Governor Bill Richardson bows out of the running for Commerce secretary amid questions over a pay-to-play scandal.
Hillary Clinton is appointed Secretary of State despite concerns there’s still no real transparency about her husband’s foundation accepting large donations from international donors and foreign governments.
Timothy Geithner, appointed Treasury secretary, hit with major tax evasion problems. US Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, meanwhile, were confirmed despite issues related to their taxes.
Nancy Killefer, who was to be appointed Obama’s “performance czar,” withdraws after it’s revealed she didn’t pay taxes on domestic help for over a year.
Tom Daschle, HHS nominee, withdraws over serious tax evasion problems and not before several questions about his role as a high-paid influence peddler have been raised.
Geithner appoints as chief of staff Mark Patterson, a former Goldman Sachs lobbyist, who will be overseeing the Treasury’s $700 billion TARP program. Goldman has already received $10 billion of that money.
Obama appoints an acting Secretary of Labor, because his nominee Hilda Solis used to be the treasurer of American Rights at Work, which is strongly in favor of card check legislation, angering Republicans. Further, ARW is a labor lobbying group and Solis’ position as treasurer there calls into question — again — Obama’s commitment to reducing the influence of lobbyists.
The administration waived its lobbying rules for William Lynn, who lobbied for a defense contractor as recently as last year, to serve as deputy Defense secretary. When asked about this during a visit to the White House press room, Obama “flashes irritation,” according to Politico.
Kathleen Sebelius, President Obama’s nominee to become Health and Human Services secretary, said in a letter obtained by the Associated Press that she made “unintentional errors” on her taxes and has corrected her returns from three different years. In the letter, which was sent to senators and dated today, Sebelius wrote that she had made changes related to charitable contributions, business expenses and the sale of a home, according to the AP.
The wire service reports that she and her husband paid just over $7,000 in back taxes, along with $878 in interest, for the years 2005-2007.
Tom Daschle, the president’s first HHS nominee, previously withdrew from consideration over tax issues, as did chief performance officer nominee Nancy Killefer.
Giving the term judicial activism new meaning, President Obama has nominated an ACORN loyalist to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The Judicial Confirmation Network notes that David F.Hamilton previously worked as a fundraiser for ACORN, the radical direct-action group that not only resurrects the dead and gets them to the polls every election but also shakes down banks and pressures them to make home loans to people who can’t afford to pay them back. .
David Ogden was confirmed as deputy attorney general, overcoming opposition by Republicans who objected to his representation of defendants in pornography cases. Sen. Richard Shelby, R-Ala., one of the opponents, said Ogden “is more than just a lawyer who has had a few unsavory clients. He has devoted a substantial part of his career, case after case, for 20 years, in defense of pornography.”
Mr. Obama, my mother was right. You have surrounded yourself with unscrupulus characters of all sorts, and it seems that you surely do fit right in.
